Chris and Peter have been together for eleven years, but this fall they made it official. They were married in Washington, D.C. at the vibrant Dupont Circle Hotel.

Before the ceremony, the two grooms and their two best men had to be sure their bow ties looked just right!

I love this sweet moment Peter shared with his mom while we were taking family portraits.

Walking around the fountain I noticed the word “distinguished” written along the base. Perfect!

The ceremony took place in the Dupont Hotel’s private event space.

During the ceremony, three readings were read: Touched by an Angel by Maya Angelou, Love’s Philosophy by Percy Bysshe Shelley and It’s All I Have to Bring Today by Emily Dickinson:

It’s all I have to bring today
This and my heart beside.

This, and my heart, and all the fields

And all the meadows wide.

Be sure you count, should I forget

Someone the sum could tell

This, and my heart, and all the bees

Which in the clover dwell.

The ceremony ended with the officiant, Ed Ingebretsen-Doud saying, “Chris, Peter, Equal Justice under law: Probably for the first time in your adult lives you can have this access. Access to law is never complete, or perfect, and it’s a goal we strive for, and with this ceremony, reach a bit more: Welcome to equality of law, its rights, duties, and occasional comforts. And by the authority invested in me through the Superior Court, by the Congress of the United States, I now pronounce you legally married in the District of Columbia, and in the United States.
…How simple this moment, yet how ethically necessary for our spiritual good.”
During the toasts, Chris had a few special thank you’s, “Special shout out to our DC folks, to say thanks for listening to us talk about nothing else but this wedding for the past 5 months or so! It’s here now, so that part is over. Unfortunately now you’ll have to listen to us talk about how much we love being married, so it may be just as sickening!”
Chris and Peter’s cake was stunning. The orchid on top is actually made out of sugar!

A favorite moment for Chris was seeing both families together in the same room along with their closest friends from DC, Chicago and St Louis, “all getting to know each other, and then getting crazy on the dance floor!”

Special thanks to all the vendors:
