Marta and Todd were married on a beautiful fall day in Georgetown in Washington, D.C. The day began with preparations at the Four Seasons.

The bride and bridesmaids all wore sparkly Jimmy Choos. So glamorous!

Marta’s three sisters helped her with her wedding gown.

Marta and Todd first met while both working at Hickok Cole Architects in Georgetown in 2007 so it was the perfect location for their wedding.

The ceremony took place at the Epiphany Church on Dumbarton Street.

It was such a nice walk going from the church to the Four Seasons Hotel. We stopped many times along the way to capture the colorful historic buildings and to enjoy Rose Park.

I just loved these yellow orchids in the bride and bridesmaids’ hair. GORGEOUS!

Todd gave each groomsman a special gift: cufflinks of their favorite sports team.

Todd popped the question last February in London. After spending the entire day wandering, exploring and taking in some of the wonders of British culture, Todd took Marta to the tallest building in London, which is home to a beautiful champagne bar overlooking the city, Vertigo 42. Over a bottle of champagne, he pulled out a little box and got down on one knee.

Marta says, “I then cried for an hour because I was so happy and so surprised! He did good, ladies. He did good.”

French wine bottles were set as the table number centerpieces to share Marta and Todd’s love of wine. The bottles show regions they’d like to visit on their honeymoon in France!

Marta and Todd took part in a Polish wedding tradition–a greeting with bread and salt and vodka and water.

The parents of the bride and groom greet the newlyweds with bread and salt, and the couple kisses their parents and new in-laws on the cheek, then eats a piece of the bread and salt. The bread is meant to symbolize the parents’ hope that their children won’t ever be hungry or in need, and the salt is meant to symbolize a reminder that life will be difficult at times. The vodka and water are presented side by side. No one knows which one is which, so the bride and groom each choose one. It is said that whoever drinks the vodka will lead the household.

Marta ended up drinking the vodka!

The cake topper was given to them by one of Todd’s co-workers/friends. It was authentically made and shipped from Krakow, Poland.

I asked the couple about their favorite moments from the day, Marta responded:

“Todd’s favorite moment was the entrance into the reception. He was really moved by all our family and friends clapping and cheering for us and being there for us. (I loved that moment too!)”

“I loved everything about the evening, but there were three things that really stood out for me. The Polish traditions because they were really fun. I wasn’t expecting the vodka at all! I
also loved the first dance to Country Roads. Everyone cheered so loudly! Finally, I loved my sister’s speech. It brought back so many memories and I was really moved.”

Congratulations Marta and Todd!
