I met Dawn and Dan at Fort Tryon Park, way up on the north tip of Manhattan for their engagement portraits at the Cloisters.
Dawn shares, “Dan and I met on the cross country team at the University of Scranton. He was a big shot senior and the jokester of the team, and I was a little freshman – we never would have imagined ending up together! We started hanging out more in the spring semester and, during Dan’s graduation weekend, he asked me to his sister’s wedding. I had so much fun with him and his family at the wedding and the next day he asked me to be his girlfriend!”
On October 22, 2011 Dan set up an elaborate scheme with fake plans and a surprise proposal. He tells me, “Dawn is hard person to surprise because she plans everything.”
Dawn continues, “Last year, Dan proposed to me by the Brooklyn Bridge – one of my favorite places in the city. It was perfect. We have had a lot of fun planning our wedding so far and can’t wait to celebrate with our friends and family! As I live on Long Island, and Dan lives in Orange County, we are also really looking forward to having a home together and finally getting to see each other every day.”
The Cloisters museum and gardens is a branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art showcasing the art and architecture of medieval Europe. It is such a beautiful place with wonderful scenic views, and especially colorful and fun to visit in the fall.
Dan shared some of their favorite hobbies, “Paying $20 in tolls round trip and sitting in hours of traffic every other weekend to visit each other, making each other laugh, running together, going to Yankee games, skiing/snowboarding, going to the beach, playing tennis, and spending time with our friends and families.”
Their first date was playing tennis on campus. Dan continues, ” I beat her 6-0! We had so much fun and couldn’t stop laughing, there was never a dull moment.”
I love this one–you two look so happy!
Dawn continues, “Dan and I love to run together, we have trained for two marathons together and look forward to as many more as our knees can handle! Dan is the kindest, most genuine person I have ever met and he makes me laugh every single day. I am so blessed to have him in my life and can’t wait to marry him.”
They will be married at the St. Agnes Cathedral on Long Island in April.
Happy Engagement Dawn and Dan!
