Katie and Drew were married on a warm October day in Washington, D.C.

Drew waited anxiously in a hotel room of the Willard for Katie to greet him for the first look.

I asked the couple about their favorite moments of the day.

From Katie: “One of my favorite moments was the first look. I really didn’t expect to cry at all during the day, so I was very taken aback when I burst into tears seeing him for the first time. I was just overwhelmed with excitement and anticipation of getting married. It was a wonderful moment.”

From Drew: “My favorite moment was the first look with Katie. I didn’t know what her dress would look like, so I was very surprised and thought she looked beautiful.  My favorite parts also included walking through the city taking pictures and seeing my mom and dad dancing. I was also moved to have people from different aspects of our lives together in one location to celebrate this with us.”

After the first look, we headed outside with the wedding party for portraits in front of the Old Post Office Pavilion.

The ceremony took place along the dramatic staircase of the City Club.

Katie also shared, “Another moment that I loved was saying my vows to Drew. Looking at him, I felt like we were the only people in the room. I loved saying the traditional vows that so many others before us have said.”

Although most portraits were done before the ceremony, we took some time afterwards so the couple could be alone and celebrate together before the reception.

We were lucky that so many beautiful buildings were close by including the Capitol, the Old Post Office Pavilion and Federal Triangle.

The reception began with toasts and a first dance to Duncan Sheik’s For You.

Congratulation Katie and Drew!

I was honored to photograph their engagement portraits last spring.
