Ivy and Daniel were married on a beautiful September day at Fox Hollow in Long Island, NY.
Daniel shares, “I proposed to Ivy on the anniversary of our first date. I specially planned it for when we were on vacation to Ivy’s hometown, Hong Kong. It was also the day she gave me my anniversary gift of the D & O cufflinks that I was wearing at the wedding.”
Ivy continues, “It was a great proposal, I cried like a baby. I was especially surprised since he had already given me my present of a hand-drawn story book about us, and when I was done reading it he had an even better surprise for me!”
The wedding day brought together family and friends from all over the world. Ivy adds, “Friends and family from Austria, Hong Kong, Taiwan and all over the US got to come and celebrate our special day with us. We were so grateful and happy to see them since we so rarely get to.
Daniel adds, “We were happy that our two adorable flower girls could come all the way from Arizona with their family. The younger one was so excited she couldn’t nap, and then fell asleep right before the ceremony! So her big sister decided to take both flower baskets and did a fantastic job walking down the aisle.”
Ivy shares, “We tried not to have a set style for the wedding, but we did incorporate elements that would make us both happy and represent the joining of our two families and cultures. I was very pleased with how everything turned out, and we had a very elegant and romantic wedding. I loved how we incorporated Chinese red and gold elements into many aspects of the wedding: the bouquet, centerpieces, party favors, groomsmen socks, tea ceremony outfits and my shoes.
Daniel adds, “The glass that I broke at the end of our Jewish ceremony was from my grandfather’s house. I was glad that I could have something of his incorporated into the wedding since he would have loved to be there with us.”
The bride and groom included the Jewish traditions of a ketubah signing, chuppah and breaking of the glass and, immediately after they took their wedding vows, the parents and close family participated in a Chinese tea ceremony.
