Love Under the Bridge: Happy Engagement Jessica & Elvis!

Brooklyn is amazing. And so are Jessica and Elvis.

They met me along the Brooklyn Promenade on what was probably the last warm day of the year. We started the shoot on Pier 1.

Along the Fulton Ferry Landing, Walt Whitman’s poem, Crossing Brooklyn Ferry, adorns the railing:

Flow on, river! Flow with the flood-tide, and ebb with the ebb-tide!
Frolic on, crested and scallop-edged waves!
Gorgeous clouds of the sun-set, drench with your splendor me, or the men and women generations after me!
Cross from shore to shore, countless crowds of passengers!
Stand up, tall masts of Manahatta!—stand up, beautiful hills of Brooklyn!
Bully for you! you proud, friendly, free Manhattanese!
Throb, baffled and curious brain! throw out questions and answers!
Suspend here and everywhere, eternal float of solution!

Elvis says, “The proposal was a very nerve-wracking thing for me. The ring was meant to be a Christmas gift but once I had it in my hand it didn’t last three days! I had it in my pocket the whole time waiting for the right moment. I randomly asked her to take a walk in downtown Brooklyn. When we decided to leave I thought I lost my shot but we walked onto this clearing where we were alone overlooking the NYC skyline. I barely got the words out of my mouth because of how nervous I was. But I did. And from that moment on, she became my fiancee.”

Elvis remembers, “We met playing softball and were friends on and off the field for a few years before realizing we couldn’t go a few days without seeing each other.

What I love about her most is that since we started that way, we remain best friends on top of everything else. ”

Walking along the streets of Brooklyn Heights, we found some great grit and graffiti.

At the base of the Brooklyn Bridge sits a minipark called Anchorage Plaza. This sculpture was created by Keith Godard and added to the park on May 24, 1983, to celebrate the centennial of the Bridge’s opening. I love how it looks like they are pointing at the couple.

We ended the session on the bridge facing Manhattan just as the sun went down.
