Lauren loves the city. Sam loves nature. It was a perfect blend to take their engagement session to the High Line.
A wedding with two brides is especially awesome when there are two engagement rings!
Lauren shares, “In a lot of ways, we are as different as two people can be. She loves to be deep in the woods; I love the city. She likes things rustic; I like them modern. She keeps cats; I prefer birds. It was our mutual love for science that brought us together, and our mutual obsession with food that brought us close.
Despite the fact that we grew up only two miles apart in suburban Jersey, we never really knew each other until we both moved to Tampa to study marine biology. We both have a strong passion for nature, especially the ocean. Because Sam was two years ahead of me in school, we didn’t have much of a chance to get to know each other until we headed out on the same trip to the Galapagos on a yacht that the school chartered. By the time we got back, we were dating, and the rest is pretty much history!”
Sam proposed to Lauren one night in Cape Cod.
Lauren shares, “Sam brought the ring and was planning to propose on my favorite beach at sunset during our first night in Cape Cod. We didn’t make it to the beach before dark that night, and the backup plan was to do it the next night. However, Sam is not known for her ability to keep a surprise–she couldn’t wait to do it! That night, I told her I loved her, and that I could see myself with her forever. She asked if I meant it, and pulled out an engagement ring. It didn’t go the way she had planned, but I think I like it better that way.
We’ve had a long engagement, and a lot has changed since she proposed. Sam has been enjoying a successful career working as a scientist. I have gone back to school to work on a degree that combines culinary arts and food science. We have been enjoying the process of building a life together, and we can’t wait to start our life as a married couple.”
Lauren and Sam will be married this spring on the Hornblower yacht in NYC. Their relationship started on a boat to the Galapogos and will now come full circle as they get married on a boat this May. Happy engagement!
