Carla and Ben had a beautiful winter wedding in a loft in Union Square.

Ben shares, “Our winter wedding in NYC took place at the loft space above Tarallucci e Vino, Union Square. We chose it because we fell in love with its beautiful exposed brick and huge windows. The space has a classic New York City vibe!

Our wedding ceremony was simple and intimate, with only our immediate family attending. Carla’s best friend Tiffany officiated. Our florist created a lovely arrangement of branches and candles to frame us against the brick wall.”

The couple’s unique wedding vows  included their love of playing board games together.

Ben adds, “We decided to both take each other’s name, so we are now Carla and Ben Moy-Turner. It was important to us to share the same name, but we didn’t want either of us to lose our existing name. Moy-Turner just sounds right!”

Ben continues, “After the ceremony, we made the short walk over to Union Square Park for a few outdoor photos. At this point we were ruing our decision to get married in January! In the end, braving the cold was worth it for a memorable and unique series of photos.

The reception followed soon after with dinner, drinks and dancing for 100 guests. We love Italian cuisine, and the chef and staff at Tarallucci delivered a delicious meal. Everything tasted wonderful.

Our custom cake topper featured things central to our relationship: our beloved dog Bessie; some of our favorite board games (we originally met through a group of friends who gather for weekly game nights); and a pair of passports to represent our love of travel. The travel theme extended to the table decorations and place cards. Each of the four long tables was designated as a country or region that we’ve visited, and each guest’s seat was marked with a photograph taken by the two of us. It was a fun way to share the memories we have made in our adventures!”

It was freezing out, but they were so happy, you would never know by looking at the photos!

FLO Events created a beautiful tablescape with mixed bouquets of purple flowers, greenery, berries and eucalyptus. Carla and Ben didn’t plan to be so on trend, but they ended up incorporating the Pantone color of the year–ultraviolet!

Snow! Christmas! And lots of love! Sarah and Will had a beautiful, elegant, winter wedding with just the right touches of the holiday season. Sarah got ready for the day at the couple’s home in Alexandria, Virginia.

The ceremony took place at the Falls Church Presbyterian in Falls Church, Virginia. The stone church is surrounded by holly bushes and the grounds were covered in fresh white snow.

A sword arch is a special military tradition that requires the couple to kiss in order to pass under each set of swords. The tradition is meant to salute the newly married couple.

Sarah shares, “We chose to do a December wedding because that was the timeline our lives was leading us towards and we both love the holidays and liked the idea of capitalizing on the excitement and joy of the season. That said, we deliberately sought to go light on Christmas up until the reception, that way we could have some pictures and memories that weren’t entirely associated with Christmas!

I went to college in Scotland and we both have Scottish heritage so the thistle between all of the bouquets and boutonnières seemed appropriate. Another common theme in the flowers was the boxwood, which was included in honor of my dad (who loves and collects boxwood). We also weaved William’s family tartan into the aesthetic too, using it to wrap the bouquets, boutonnières, and for the flower girl sashes—I even had my shoes covered in it!

William added, “Sarah made me special chocolate chip cookies for the wedding reception (because I love her cookies and she spoils me!) but they were accidentally delivered to me early before the ceremony. While this was slightly distressing to Sarah when she caught wind of what happened, they were actually the perfect sugar pick me up that I needed to make it through the ceremony.”

William shares, “Our reception was at the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington. We chose the club for several reasons. Growing up, I spent a lot of time there because my dad was also in the Navy and he was stationed in Northern Virginia for most of my childhood. When Sarah and I started dating we began going to the club together more and more and it quickly became a special place for us as a couple. Also, when we decided on December we gravitated towards the club because it looks particularly awesome at Christmas time.”

Sarah adds, “When it came to the reception we completely embraced Christmas! The club made that easy though since they had decorated for the season already with garland and Christmas trees everywhere. For the centerpieces we had boxwood wreaths and hurricanes with cranberries in water and floating candles. We had the guests take the wreaths for their doors at the end of the reception which was pretty fun! My favorite touch though was that we put together stockings for all of the kids who came and hung them on the fireplaces for them to open after dinner.”

Sarah and William danced their first dance to “Sleep on the Floor,” by The Lumineers.

A blessing was said before dinner and then Sarah and her dad and William and his mom shared special parent dances.

The cake topper was custom made by the groom’s sister to represent the couple’s childhood stuffed bears that they both have to this day.

At the end of the evening guests were given little carol books and asked to join the bride and groom in the main lobby to sing some of their favorite Christmas songs. It was such a sweet and unique way to end the evening!

Adriana and Dom were married on Halloween weekend in NYC. Their wedding was very city chic, featuring black and white details at the W Hotel Union Square, but also with fun pops of Halloween whimsy.

After the ceremony, the wedding party went to Washington Square Park for some photos.

Adriana shares, “Inscribed in Dom’s wedding band is not the date we were getting married 10/28/17, it’s the date we first met 9/19/14. I want to remember this date because it’s the date that the most unexpected chance encounter happened between two people who were in the right place at the right time and not looking for love but working on loving and living their best life for themselves.

From choosing Elvis’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love” but letting it lead into UB40’s reggae infused version, our wedding was the perfect combination of “edgy elegance.” We went classic and timeless more or less in everything we chose for this wedding but, where there was room for a pop of our personalities, humor and a little sass, we went for it.

Our signature drinks “The Golden Girl” and “The Good Fella” speak perfectly to our personalities and the ways in which we managed to tie our interests and humor into any element of this wedding we could. White constructed bouquets were also something I helped design with Stacy – we decided we wanted to do as much white as possible but in an edgy way.

I let my bridesmaids wear what they wanted as long as it was black and to the floor, I wanted my friends to dress true to themselves and the style that worked best and I love the mix of cuts, styles and looks in one photo.

I love white, I love black, I love Halloween and I love my husband Dom.

Thank you, Jess, for capturing a classic New York fall wedding with a side order of sass!”

Adriana adds, “I had the most fun incorporating the subtle pops of Halloween references from Dom’s skull cufflinks to our bags at the candy bar customized to read “Happy Halloween, love the BOO-cchinos.” I was living for every little moment I could add my own personality into the day. If you are going to choose to get married on Halloween weekend you need to do something!!! The all-white candy bar was my favorite idea. I worked hard with my amazing planner Stacy from FLO NY Events to do a candy bar that was chic and monochromatic with pops of Halloween. It was my favorite thing to construct and see come to life at the wedding.”

Elizabeth and Chris were married on a warm autumn day in Southampton. The day began with preparations at a beach house.

Lyz shares the story of how they met and got engaged, “We met freshman year of college – we were housed on the same freshman hall, just a few doors down from each other, in a dorm with co-ed bathrooms. We joke that we’ve shared a bathroom since we met. We started seeing each other about midway through freshman year and have been together now for 15 years.

Chris proposed during our vacation in Southampton in June 2016. We took the boat out for a ride with the family dog to our favorite spot on a small island in the Little Peconic Bay. We went for a long walk out to the point and on the way he said some sweet things and then got down on one knee. It turns out that for much of the walk he was trying to hide the fact he was working to unzip two zip-lock bags that he had in his bathing suit pocket without me noticing. It was a perfect day and, even after 14 years, I was absolutely surprised.

My engagement ring is a very special piece connecting me to both Chris’s mother and grandmother. I love the sapphires and loved the idea of a making a wedding band that would help to highlight the uniqueness of the family heirloom.”

The ceremony was held at the Basilica Parish of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. It is a beautiful church that was created with stone discarded from the New York Public Library.

It has been a busy and exciting year for Lyz and Chris! She shares, “We were consumed with house-buying which was our priority and, therefore, did zero wedding planning for almost a year. Then, oddly enough, a few of us had the same idea in the same week – what if we just did the reception at the Coast Grill? One call to Pam, the restaurant owner, and I was sold – her approach matched mine – let’s just have a really fun, stress-free party, without all the fuss that often comes along with weddings.

The Coast Grill is just two houses away from Chris’s parents’ house and it’s our family’s go-to spot for dinner on the weekends when we want to get out of the house, and it’s not just because we can walk there. Pam and her husband have created such a warm and welcoming environment, with the bonus of delicious food; we are so lucky they are so close. It was just the perfect place for us to bring all of our family and friends together.

We went for ease wherever possible. We made our own save the dates, I found my dress online, picked our invitation design from Etsy and used vendors we knew well or had been recommended by friends.

The whole day was perfect. The ceremony was beautiful and moving, getting photos with our 6-month old puppy on the beach was so fun, and having all of our family and friends together, at the restaurant we love, was so special. It really was the perfect wedding.

Also exciting was our nieces and nephew meeting for the first time – two live in California and one in New York. They were instant friends and had so much fun together as the flower girls and ring bearer.”

Megumi and Joomin were married on a beautiful day in Brooklyn. Preparations began at an apartment in Williamsburg.

After a very sweet first look, we headed to Dumbo for some photos. Joomin proposed to Megumi at this spot on the pier and it was very meaningful for them to go back to the place where she said “yes!”

These two photos at Jane’s Carousel perfectly illustrate Megumi and Joomin. They are sweet and emotional, but also silly and tons of fun!

The ceremony was held outside in the garden at MyMoon.

Joomin is a trained singer and is currently starring in the Off-Broadway show, “KPOP.” His voice is beautiful! He sang “You and I” by Michael Buble to Megumi just before they shared their vows.

Megumi shares, “My favorite moment was when Joomin sang for me during the ceremony. He kept his eyes on me, and sang to me as his voice was shaking to hold down his tears. I will never forget his face, his voice, and his emotion. At that moment, it really hit me that we are getting married and that we are in front of friends and families, who are witnessing our love.”

Married!

Megumi says, “Even though we come from two separate traditions, Japanese and Korean, we decided to celebrate our marriage “our way.” We didn’t follow any books to plan our wedding, we just put all the things we wanted to do together, and asked the people we love to be part of it. But Joomin’s mom did wear a traditional Korean outfit for the wedding and she was stunning!”

wedding toastmymoon wedding venue

The look of the venue was very important to the couple. Megumi shares, “We were looking for a venue with exposed bricks since our apartment has exposed bricks and we are totally in love with it. When we went for a tour, we instantly fell in love with it. So cute, perfect for the number of guests we were planning on inviting, and we loved that the venue included delicious food and great drinks. We also loved that we could project our names and the date of the wedding on the outside wall too!”

When you have amazing friends who are brilliant Broadway performers, why not have a cabaret hour at your reception? Friends sang love songs to the newlyweds and, of course, the stars of “KPOP” had to sing a song to Megumi! KPOP sang “사랑의 노래” which means “Song of Love” (music and lyrics by Max Vernon and Helen Park).

“사랑의 노래 난 언제나 너만,
바라볼꺼라 약속 할꺼야 소중한 이 자리에.
수줍은 그대 미소 바라볼때마다 난 행복해.
언제까지나 오 영원토록 You are my biggest star.”

This translates to: “Song of love I promise you that I only love you in this special moment. My shy girl, your smile always makes me happy. Forever and ever you are my biggest star.”

Many emotional speeches were delivered during dinner. Megumi shares, “Since we are from multilingual backgrounds, we made sure that everyone in the room could understand the speeches. We had our friends translate the speeches to English, Korean, and Japanese so everyone could feel included. Joomin’s dad’s speech was all in Korean, but with the translation everyone was able to understand and get emotional with us!”

I don’t often get to see a good cake smash. This one was awesome! Megumi really went for it!
