Crystal and Michael came all the way from New Mexico for a winter wedding in Central Park! Crystal got ready in a hotel near the park.

The beautiful ceremony took place on the Gapstow Bridge.

The ceremony was performed by Crystal’s best friend, Kathryn. Crystal adds, “We have known each other for only four years but it feels like we have known each other all of our lives!  She is so important to Michael and me and we were so thrilled when she agreed to officiate our wedding!”

During the ceremony, Crystal and Michael had a special tribute to their new family; Crystal married Michael and gained two daughters and a son.

Crystal shares, “I have always wanted to have a small wedding in NYC and I love winter! Michael and I got engaged in August, and winter was only a few months away! Planning a wedding in a few months from across the country wasn’t easy but it turned out better than we could have imagined. All of our vendors were amazing.  We got our winter wedding and were married on our 8-year anniversary!

The whole day was absolutely beautiful.  It was supposed to be one of the coldest days of the year but it seemed like the universe was on our side.  The sun was out, the wind had stopped and the weather was perfect.  I was so happy to have both of my parents walk me up the bridge. Seeing Michael for the first time that day was incredible. After 8 years together, I still get butterflies when I see him. Our wedding day was better than any fairytale I could have ever dreamed of!”

Michael adds,  “The most memorable moment was when I saw Crystal walking towards me as I was standing at the top of the bridge.  Everything flowed so naturally, it was magical.”

Jill shares, “When it comes to our wedding style, we really loved the idea of an art deco/1940’s feel for the wedding, but we also wanted it to be simple and personal. We had fun adding the personal touches like my grandma’s gooey butter cake, cocktails named after people we love, and then bringing New York City into the mix by making our own Chuppah. It began hanging over us, and then we attached balloons that turned it into the NYC skyline as our backdrop. Our friends Lloyd and Michael made the design of the Chuppah possible, and Josh and I spent two full Saturdays painting it!”

Anne and Ross told me they don’t have many pictures of the two of them together, so they went all out for their engagement shoot. We went everywhere and had so much fun!

It just so happened that we planned the engagement shoot on Valentine’s day. So the photos started off with a great big heart balloon at the metro station near their home.

Ross has become a part of a family. He says, “Anne introduced me to her little girl, Bridgett, the sweetest and most stubborn dog.  Bridgett is now our little girl and by far the most important part of our lives.”

Anne adds, “Ross has been there for me through so much: my hectic schedule when going to law school at night during our early years of dating, my even more hectic schedule as an associate at a big law firm, and four major orthopedic surgeries. But it was only when I found myself confident that Ross would take as good care of Bridgett when I traveled for work as I would that I was sure I had a keeper! On my first trip away, he even created a blog so I could keep up with Bridgett’s activities and listen to the little noises she makes when she’s sleeping!”

Next stop, we went to one of the coolest locations I have ever been! Ross found this church while scouting for a vibrant and interesting location to include in the engagement session. This church was recreated by artist Alex Hense Brewer, who was commissioned to re-purpose a dilapidated, vacant  building and create a work of art.

Next we made our way to Georgetown by the canal.

Ross tells the great proposal story, “For me, while I have known for some years I wanted to be with Anne for the rest of my life, I knew this year was the year to confirm that she wanted to be with me.  I wanted to make it memorable, fun, and have the moment captured for the rest of our lives.  Anne has always loved going to amusement parks and really wanted to go this past summer.  I knew this would be perfect, but wasn’t sure how to make it work.  The idea I had was to propose on a roller coaster right before/when they take your picture.  The first coaster we road reminded me that I was old and made me start to rethink the idea as I already had butterflies in my stomach and wasn’t sure I could hold them down.  We road another less brain scattering coaster only to find that they no longer provided you with a the picture.  Finally, we road Ricochet which was much more tame and it took a picture.  I convinced her to ride it a second time immediately after, and proposed right before the camera snapped the picture.”

Anne was so surprised, “The Ricochet may be a tame roller coaster but I was breathless and noodle-legged walking off! We now have a picture from the moment that includes two random kids who were in the same car as us and who have no idea what they were a part of!”

Anne looked gorgeous in her little black dress, but she told me on the way to the last stop in the snow that she is really a pony tail kind of girl. She loves heels but feels more comfortable in workout gear. All of a sudden, she unleashed the beast!

Ross shares the story of how they met playing flag football in college, “I had played in the league for a few years, but not on the Clemson team.  I showed up not knowing anyone and played quite well the first game.  The next game Anne asked if I wanted to warm up with her.  I’ll never forget being equally impressed and embarrassed by how much better than me she threw the football.”

Anne continues, “He scored a couple touchdowns in that second game and it was my turn to be impressed.  He was so fast!  I sent him an email the following day.  We started dating very soon after, and it was quickly evident how much we both loved sports.”

Ross adds, “I like to think that those were the most important touchdowns I ever scored in my life. Over the past nine years or so we have played together in countless flag football games across six or seven different leagues, snowboarded across Pennsylvania and Colorado, and followed the Baltimore Ravens through disappointment and a Super Bowl victory!  We’ve seen hundreds of movies, watched way too many reality shows, and even tried hip-hop dance classes together.”

Their wedding will be at the Ritz-Carlton in Georgetown this summer. The ceremony will be outside in the garden followed by cocktails in the Ritz’s bar and a reception in the Fahrenheit ballroom.

Anne shares, “Bridgett will, of course, be my maid of honor and be a part of the wedding!  She’s still mulling over what she’d like to wear though. Other favorite details of mine so far are the Ritz accommodating a vegan wedding cake and my beautiful gown!”

Ross adds, “I’m most excited to see our vision of the wedding come to fruition and see our friends and families reactions.  We are doing the planning ourselves and I just can’t wait to see it all come together.  I am also quite interested to see Anne in her dress as she has purposely kept all details hidden from me. We’re also extremely excited about the rehearsal dinner as we plan to have it at the new Pinstripes in Georgetown where we will have dinner and then bowl with our friends and family.”

Happy Engagement Anne and Ross!

Jill and Marcus shared their first date in a romantic, rustic bar in the East Village. I met them at The Wren to take their engagement photos.

Like many single people in New York, Jill and Marcus met online. Marcus shares, “One day, before leaving for work in the morning, I checked to see who had viewed my profile. Who is this “jaygee” and why hadn’t she said hello? I viewed her profile. She was witty, sharp and beautiful. I carefully wrote a note, introducing myself, made an attempt at humor, hit send and hoped for a second look.”

Jill remembers, “I got Marcus’s email while I was watching a Rangers game on TV, chatting with a friend on the phone. Marcus’s alias “asithappened” appeared in my inbox with a short, funny email that made reference to one of the statements in my profile. Impressed with Marcus’s confidence and entertaining email, I responded.”

Jill recalls their first date, “We made a plan to meet at The Wren. It was busy and I was running late. I had this giant bag, and I made a joke that it was a mailbag. I think for a second he really thought I delivered mail.”

Marcus continues, “I got there early and had to use the bathroom so when I came out I was craning my neck and saw her. ‘Jill?’ Then I was being my awkward self, trying to get us drinks and after that we settled into conversation and hit it off immediately. We both work in advertising and knew some of the same people. We had lots in common right off the bat, which made things even more familiar. I think we were both surprised at how easily we vibed together. It was nice.”

Marcus continues, “During this initial courting period, the NY Rangers were in the playoffs and Jill’s a big Rangers fan. (Her dad took her to her first game when she was thirteen.) So we got to know each other while watching games. I had been a fan of hockey in Hartford starting when my family moved from Florida to Connecticut when I started high school.

Our first summer together we spent lots of time at music shows, walks around the city and museums. We introduced each other to new things – I introduced Jill to my favorite Brooklyn coffee spots, Jill introduced me to the Lemon Ice King of Corona, a Queens staple to keep cool during the hot summer.

During our second summer together, we decided to check out Rhinebeck, NY, for a weekend getaway. It was that weekend that I asked Jill to marry me after hiding “the ring” in her denim jacket before we ventured out for the day.

We’ll be getting married this spring in Tribeca. The NY Rangers will be playing that night so that’s one game we won’t be able to catch. (But hopefully they’ll win!)”

Happy Engagement Jill and Marcus!

Amanda and Eric were married on an unseasonably warm December day at the Annapolis, Maryland, Courthouse. They planned an elopement-style wedding in just two weeks!

Historic Annapolis Wedding elopement Maryland

The Annapolis Courthouse is so charming and lovely. Amanda told me she looked into civil ceremonies at courthouses in Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, but neither of them had the pretty chapel atmosphere. The courthouse in Annapolis is the perfect place for an elopement because the area is beautiful and historic and the ceremony is in a private room that can seat around 20-30 guests. It also seems less rushed. Amanda and Eric had time to say their own personal vows and really enjoy the ceremony.

After the ceremony, we walked around the area.  The weather was so incredibly nice that we were able to walk all around historic Annapolis to take photos and Amanda didn’t even need her coat!

Amanda shares a wonderful proposal story, “While I was working in Africa this summer, we decided to meet in Tanzania and climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. It was an amazing experience. Eric carried the ring to the summit, but with the dizzying feeling at almost 20,000 feet, and with crowds of people around, he decided to wait for a more private moment. We flew from Arusha to Zanzibar the day after reaching the summit. After spending three days scuba diving, as the sun began to set we headed back to the room to relax. Eric had champagne waiting and rose petals in the shape of a heart on the bed and he popped the question. We celebrated sipping our champagne and watching the sunset in the beautiful Matemwe Beach area of Zanzibar. In similar fashion, we wanted something small and intimate for the wedding, and Annapolis could not have worked out more perfectly.”
