The bride shares, “In the week leading up to the wedding, the forecast had been predicting rain, at one point an 80% chance. We were SO relieved that amid this crazy winter we had a mostly sunny day with temps in the low 60’s which enabled us to take outdoor photos (and was one less thing to stress over!)”

The ceremony and reception were held at the Mediterranean-inspired Thalassa restaurant.

Jill continues, “The day has so many favorite parts, but one of them was definitely the first look, as well as seeing Teagan and Rylan (the flower girl and ring bearer) in their wedding attire. They looked so cute! Another fun part of the evening was during the Hora. We had stopped it and then re-started it because my parents wanted to also be lifted up in the chairs. Marcus’s parents also joined in the chair-lift fun. One of my friends said to me, ‘That was either the shortest Hora ever or the longest Hora ever, I’m not sure.’

The night went by so quickly and we were so happy to celebrate with our family and friends who came in from all different parts of the country to attend our wedding. It meant so much to us to have them there. We had a great time!””

The beautiful ceremony took place on the Gapstow Bridge.

The ceremony was performed by Crystal’s best friend, Kathryn. Crystal adds, “We have known each other for only four years but it feels like we have known each other all of our lives!  She is so important to Michael and me and we were so thrilled when she agreed to officiate our wedding!”

During the ceremony, Crystal and Michael had a special tribute to their new family; Crystal married Michael and gained two daughters and a son.

Crystal shares, “I have always wanted to have a small wedding in NYC and I love winter! Michael and I got engaged in August, and winter was only a few months away! Planning a wedding in a few months from across the country wasn’t easy but it turned out better than we could have imagined. All of our vendors were amazing.  We got our winter wedding and were married on our 8-year anniversary!

The whole day was absolutely beautiful.  It was supposed to be one of the coldest days of the year but it seemed like the universe was on our side.  The sun was out, the wind had stopped and the weather was perfect.  I was so happy to have both of my parents walk me up the bridge. Seeing Michael for the first time that day was incredible. After 8 years together, I still get butterflies when I see him. Our wedding day was better than any fairytale I could have ever dreamed of!”

Michael adds,  “The most memorable moment was when I saw Crystal walking towards me as I was standing at the top of the bridge.  Everything flowed so naturally, it was magical.”

Lauren and Sean are such a sweet couple! I met them along the Hoboken Waterfront for their engagement photography session. We were so lucky to have a mildly warm winter day for their shoot.

Lauren shares their proposal story, “Sean and my twin sister talked for weeks about getting the ring and how he would propose. My sister and I tell each other EVERYTHING and the fact that she kept this a secret from me is still hard to believe. Sean had a plan to throw me off for Christmas and told me that he was buying me a kettlebell for Christmas. He really did get me a pink kettlebell (which I love!) but that wasn’t the only gift. I think Sean was going to wait until Christmas Eve or Christmas to propose but Sean (and my sister!) couldn’t wait any longer so the weekend before Christmas, at 11:30 at night, he put the ring under my pillow and told me that he had a small present for me under my pillow. I was so excited and did not sleep at all that night.”

They chose to have their engagement session in Hoboken because that is where they met, went on their first date, and had their first kiss. They add, “We still spend the majority of our time in Hoboken and it will always be a special place for us to visit.”

They are both very athletic. Sean played football and basketball growing up and now loves Olympic weightlifting. Lauren started gymnastics at the age of 2 and continued to compete at a Division I college and now loves to do Crossfit.

She shares the story of how they met, “I started going to CKO, which is a kickboxing gym in Hoboken, and seriously needed to get back into shape. Sean was a kickboxing instructor and personal trainer at CKO. I would always take his classes. He was one of the hardest instructors and it definitely helped that he was also nice to look at! I like to say that he was impressed by my kickboxing skills and he asked me if I wanted to workout with him and lift some weights. I was a gymnast in college so when I was able to do unassisted pull-ups the first time we trained together, I think he was sold. It started off with us working out together and then we decided to grab some dinner after the gym one night and that is when it all began! Going to the gym and lifting weights is something that we both love to do together and it has definitely made our relationship even stronger….couples that lift together, stay together!”

They will be married this November at Nanina’s in the Park in Belleville, NJ. Lauren adds, “We both come from very big families (Sean is 1 of 7 children in his family, 5 sisters and 1 brother!) so our wedding is going to be big with lots of people, lots of food and lots of dancing!”

Happy Engagement Lauren and Sean!

Jill shares, “When it comes to our wedding style, we really loved the idea of an art deco/1940’s feel for the wedding, but we also wanted it to be simple and personal. We had fun adding the personal touches like my grandma’s gooey butter cake, cocktails named after people we love, and then bringing New York City into the mix by making our own Chuppah. It began hanging over us, and then we attached balloons that turned it into the NYC skyline as our backdrop. Our friends Lloyd and Michael made the design of the Chuppah possible, and Josh and I spent two full Saturdays painting it!”

Anne and Ross told me they don’t have many pictures of the two of them together, so they went all out for their engagement shoot. We went everywhere and had so much fun!

It just so happened that we planned the engagement shoot on Valentine’s day. So the photos started off with a great big heart balloon at the metro station near their home.

Ross has become a part of a family. He says, “Anne introduced me to her little girl, Bridgett, the sweetest and most stubborn dog.  Bridgett is now our little girl and by far the most important part of our lives.”

Anne adds, “Ross has been there for me through so much: my hectic schedule when going to law school at night during our early years of dating, my even more hectic schedule as an associate at a big law firm, and four major orthopedic surgeries. But it was only when I found myself confident that Ross would take as good care of Bridgett when I traveled for work as I would that I was sure I had a keeper! On my first trip away, he even created a blog so I could keep up with Bridgett’s activities and listen to the little noises she makes when she’s sleeping!”

Next stop, we went to one of the coolest locations I have ever been! Ross found this church while scouting for a vibrant and interesting location to include in the engagement session. This church was recreated by artist Alex Hense Brewer, who was commissioned to re-purpose a dilapidated, vacant  building and create a work of art.

Next we made our way to Georgetown by the canal.

Ross tells the great proposal story, “For me, while I have known for some years I wanted to be with Anne for the rest of my life, I knew this year was the year to confirm that she wanted to be with me.  I wanted to make it memorable, fun, and have the moment captured for the rest of our lives.  Anne has always loved going to amusement parks and really wanted to go this past summer.  I knew this would be perfect, but wasn’t sure how to make it work.  The idea I had was to propose on a roller coaster right before/when they take your picture.  The first coaster we road reminded me that I was old and made me start to rethink the idea as I already had butterflies in my stomach and wasn’t sure I could hold them down.  We road another less brain scattering coaster only to find that they no longer provided you with a the picture.  Finally, we road Ricochet which was much more tame and it took a picture.  I convinced her to ride it a second time immediately after, and proposed right before the camera snapped the picture.”

Anne was so surprised, “The Ricochet may be a tame roller coaster but I was breathless and noodle-legged walking off! We now have a picture from the moment that includes two random kids who were in the same car as us and who have no idea what they were a part of!”

Anne looked gorgeous in her little black dress, but she told me on the way to the last stop in the snow that she is really a pony tail kind of girl. She loves heels but feels more comfortable in workout gear. All of a sudden, she unleashed the beast!

Football engagement session photography

Ross shares the story of how they met playing flag football in college, “I had played in the league for a few years, but not on the Clemson team.  I showed up not knowing anyone and played quite well the first game.  The next game Anne asked if I wanted to warm up with her.  I’ll never forget being equally impressed and embarrassed by how much better than me she threw the football.”

Anne continues, “He scored a couple touchdowns in that second game and it was my turn to be impressed.  He was so fast!  I sent him an email the following day.  We started dating very soon after, and it was quickly evident how much we both loved sports.”

Ross adds, “I like to think that those were the most important touchdowns I ever scored in my life. Over the past nine years or so we have played together in countless flag football games across six or seven different leagues, snowboarded across Pennsylvania and Colorado, and followed the Baltimore Ravens through disappointment and a Super Bowl victory!  We’ve seen hundreds of movies, watched way too many reality shows, and even tried hip-hop dance classes together.”

Their wedding will be at the Ritz-Carlton in Georgetown this summer. The ceremony will be outside in the garden followed by cocktails in the Ritz’s bar and a reception in the Fahrenheit ballroom.

Anne shares, “Bridgett will, of course, be my maid of honor and be a part of the wedding!  She’s still mulling over what she’d like to wear though. Other favorite details of mine so far are the Ritz accommodating a vegan wedding cake and my beautiful gown!”

Ross adds, “I’m most excited to see our vision of the wedding come to fruition and see our friends and families reactions.  We are doing the planning ourselves and I just can’t wait to see it all come together.  I am also quite interested to see Anne in her dress as she has purposely kept all details hidden from me. We’re also extremely excited about the rehearsal dinner as we plan to have it at the new Pinstripes in Georgetown where we will have dinner and then bowl with our friends and family.”

Happy Engagement Anne and Ross!
